Christian conferences are a strange thing. So many are filled with the same speakers and identical content that when it is all over you wonder why you spent the money to go in the first place - especially if you’ve already read the presenter’s book!
As a church-planter, I don’t have a lot of money or time to waste on conferences that simply festoon new ornaments on recycled messages.
I think a worthwhile conference must offer three things: 1) solid networking opportunities - because ministry is all about relationships; 2) an inspiring atmosphere and, maybe most importantly for me 3) original content.
That is why I am really excited for STORY.
STORY is a conference unlike any I’ve seen before. It is designed for the creative class in ministry. With some of the most creative practitioners in both ministry and the marketplace presenting, including Jason Fried (founder of 37Signals, creator of Basecamp, author of Rework), Leonard Sweet (futurist, professor at Drew University), and David Hodges (award-winning songwriter, formerly of the band Evanescence).
STORY is a two-day, main stage event on September 23-24, 2010 at Park Community Church in downtown Chicago. Seating is limited to just 500 attendees to create an intimate audience and to allow for questions and ongoing conversation.
And if nothing else, you have got to check out the website.
