I’m sitting in the library at Bethel Seminary doing research for a paper on spiritual formation during childhood. I am surrounded by books, academic journals, magazines and newspapers. What a wealth of information!
But I was struck by how much of this library I can literally take with me when I leave. With a laptop and a wireless connection I have access to most of the information sitting here in all of these books.
No, I haven’t purchased the Amazon Reader. Yes, I do have special access to the Bethel Seminary intranet. But I am talking about information from some of the greatest writers, theologians, biblical scholars, and pastors – available to anyone for free!
I have a Bookmark Folder that I labeled “Great Minds” on my Safari. Here are some of my favorites:
N.T. Wright – Bishop of Durham and probably the best New Testament scholar in the world. Lectures and articles on Paul in New Perspective, the Historicity of Jesus’ Resurrection, and Christianity in a postmodern world.
Tim Keller – Pastor of Redeemer Presbyterian in Manhattan. Sermons and Essays on culture, church planting, and biblical theology for the city.
John Piper – Pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Minneapolis, MN. More than 25 years of his preaching and teaching available for free.
Leslie Newbigin – Christian theologian and life-long missionary to India. A collection of over 200 texts on his theology of mission, ecumenism, and "Gospel and Culture."
Dallas Willard – Professor of Philosophy at USC and expert on spiritual formation. Nearly 60 articles on spirituality in a pluralistic society.
William Lane Craig - Research Professor of Philosophy at Talbot School of Theology. Numerous academic and popular articles on Christian apologetics.
GK Chesterton (1874-1936) – The ultimate Renaissance man. A collection of his essays, poetry, philosophy, and theology.
George Wood – General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God. A collection of his sermons and articles spanning over 40 years of ministry.
Martin Luther King Jr. – Stanford’s MLK Research and Education Institute has compiled and made available King's most significant correspondence, sermons, speeches, published writings, and unpublished manuscripts.
The Veritas Forum - Veritas Forums are university events that engage students and faculty in discussions about life's hardest questions and the relevance of Jesus Christ to all of life. Fascinating talks by Christianity’s best & brightest in secular academic settings.
